Accessibility Statement

How we approach accessible design on zsm.digital and in the websites we build for clients.

01 Our Commitment

ZSM Digital is committed to making our website and the digital products we deliver usable by as many people as possible, including those who use assistive technologies or have disabilities.

We aim to follow recognised accessibility standards and to improve over time. Accessibility is part of how we design and build — not an afterthought added at the end of a project.

02 Standard We Aim For

For zsm.digital and for client websites unless otherwise agreed in writing, we aim to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), published by the W3C.

Where relevant to public-sector or procurement requirements, we can also align work with EN 301 549 (the European accessibility standard for ICT products and services). Specific conformance targets for your project will be confirmed in your proposal or contract.

03 This Website (zsm.digital)

We work to make zsm.digital accessible by applying practices such as:

  • Semantic HTML structure (headings, landmarks, lists)
  • Keyboard-accessible navigation and interactive components
  • Sufficient colour contrast for text and controls on our light-theme pages
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images where appropriate
  • Responsive layouts that reflow on smaller screens and when zoomed
  • Visible focus states for keyboard users
  • Descriptive link text and form labels

We review our own site periodically and fix issues we identify. Full WCAG conformance testing by a third party can be arranged on request.

04 Client Websites & Applications

When we design and build websites or web applications for clients, we typically include accessibility considerations such as:

  • Logical heading hierarchy and page structure
  • Keyboard-operable menus, forms, and modals
  • Accessible form fields, error messages, and consent controls
  • Performance-focused, maintainable code (which supports usability for all users)
  • Guidance on alt text, captions, and accessible content where you supply media

Higher or formal compliance requirements (e.g. full WCAG audit, VPAT, public-sector accessibility statement for your organisation) can be scoped and quoted as part of your project.

05 Known Limitations

Some areas may not yet meet our target standard, or may depend on third parties:

  • Third-party content — Embedded videos, maps, chat widgets, or social feeds may not be fully under our control.
  • Client-supplied content — PDFs, images, or copy provided without alt text or structure may limit overall accessibility until updated.
  • Legacy pages — Older content may be updated on a rolling basis rather than all at once.
  • PDF documents — Unless specifically commissioned, PDFs may not be fully accessible; we can advise on accessible alternatives.

We are happy to discuss practical improvements and prioritise fixes that have the greatest impact for your users.

06 Feedback & Contact

If you have difficulty using any part of zsm.digital, or if you are a client and need accessibility support on a site we built, please tell us:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Contact form: Contact page

Please describe the page or feature, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology or browser you use if relevant. We aim to respond within 5 business days and will work with you to provide the information in an accessible format where possible.

07 Enforcement Procedure

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) for advice on discrimination under the Equality Act 2010.

For websites of public-sector bodies, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces accessibility regulations in England, Scotland, and Wales. That may not apply to ZSM Digital directly, but may be relevant to your organisation if you are a public-sector client.

08 Preparation of This Statement
